Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010 Torch arrives in Manakau, Auckland – welcomed in traditional Powhiri ceremony
Young Maori teenagers put up a moving and meaningful ceremony for everyone present, including the Governor-General of New Zealand Sir Anand Satyanand. It was a wonderful demonstration of the importance of knowing your roots, reaffirming your values and being able to do so while appreciating and welcoming people from different cultures with respect and grace.
Sports – the celebration of the apex of human performance – only makes sense when we start off by acknowledging our common humanity. If we can use the YOG to transmit this message to young people, then all our efforts would have been worthwhile.
Auspicious lighting of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Torch at Ancient Olympia on 23 July 2010
It was an incredible ceremony as the rays of the very hot sun lit the YOG Torch. Hard to imagine that this tradition started more than 2,500 years ago.
We were all very proud to watch the Singapore Flag flying high in Ancient Olympia – birthplace of the Olympics.

Ancient Olympia
Took a walk on 22 August 2010 amongst the ruins of the Temple of Zeus and stadium in ancient Olympia – birthplace of the Olympics, probably more than 2500 years old !

Being a dad for life
We need to do our bit as fathers for several reasons .. our children need us, our wives want us to do so, but perhaps most important, we do it for our own sakes. We're trying to encourage more fathers to get involved in schools, to be a part of an environment that imparts values, attitudes and perspectives of our children. Remember, it's a one-way ticket, so don't miss this ride. … It is the best part of life!
